Enhancing Protection and Control in Power Systems

Delivering innovative protection, control, asset and power system monitoring and communications solutions, CSE Uniserve is leading the charge in enhanced safety and optimised operations for the renewable and power distribution sectors.

In a challenging era where power systems must rapidly adapt to the influx of variable renewable energy and renewable generators must seamlessly integrate into existing power systems, while generating, charging and distributing energy reliably, safely and economically, CSE Uniserve is working with customers to deliver tailored protection and control solutions and optimise operations.

With renewables and embedded generation disrupting the patterns of power flows traditionally seen in power systems, there is a requirement for more flexible and versatile protection systems to enable utilities and renewable generators to thrive, despite increased system complexity.

In partnership with GE Vernova, CSE Uniserve is rising to this challenge by providing the Multilin Agile advanced protection and control platform for distribution feeder and renewable collector feeder applications, including wind, solar and BESS.

Designed to safeguard individuals, protect valuable assets and maintain system integrity, CSE Uniserve’s solutions provide confidence and peace of mind when navigating rapidly changing environments.

GE Multilin Agile: Advanced protection and control for renewables and power distribution

This powerful yet compact device serves as either primary and backup feeder protection, offering a range of advanced features across the 20TE and 30TE units. The 30TE version includes a graphical colour display that presents configurable Single Line Diagrams to enable bay monitoring and control, extensive data-logging capabilities, oscillography and event capture.

The GE Multilin Agile also provides distribution feeder protection capable of detecting faults on compensated networks and includes load encroachment on heavily loaded lines, enhancing service reliability.

Delivering flexible performance, the GE Multilin Agile relay can be used as a high impedance busbar protection relay and includes restricted earth fault protection for transformers, with up to nine trip rated contacts available.

The GE Multilin Agile’s extensive protection, control, and communications capabilities enable simplified programmability via the easy to use EnerVista D&I Setup software. Familiar to users of GE Multilin relays such as the UR series or 8 series, EnerVista ensures that performance, sensitivity, customisation, and flexibility are delivered along with minimal configuration and commissioning time for a cost-effective solution.

Leading innovation for power distribution utilities and renewable energy

Since its launch in 2023, the GE Multilin Agile feeder protection system has proven that high performance, flexibility, and advanced features can be delivered in a compact 20TE or 30TE footprint with a low power supply burden of just 12-14W. This system boasts impressive I/O density, with up to 14 inputs and 9 outputs in the 20TE version, and 30 inputs and 25 outputs in the 30TE version. It also meets ESI 48-4 compliance for opto inputs with selectable voltage thresholds and supports advanced communication and synchronisation protocols, including IEC 62439 PRP/HSR and IEEE 1588 PTP. The drawout design and support for multiple concurrent communication protocols add to its versatility.
