High Voltage Battery Energy Storage Systems

After two years of pandemic, All Energy was back last month. It brought together hundreds of professionals from energy industry who had a lot to share face-to-face. Aeson Power was in attendance and enjoyed two days of chats and meeting with existing and potential customers and industry experts at our stand. We are known as one of the respectable suppliers of Lithium-Ion batteries and traditional lead-acid ones in the market.

Great success was achieved by Aeson Power in the field of Design-and-Construct of Lithium-Ion battery energy storage systems – BESS. Most of our BESS were designed for solar power, and traditionally most of the grid-connect or off-grid systems are using the voltage of 48V.

But with the constant growth of the currents required to be handled by the solar systems, the demand has arisen to use higher voltage to escape elevated costs of cables and busbars. 

Thus, we have started to build BESS of 120V designated for solar systems, and BESS of up to 800V for industrial / rail network stabilizing systems. These have become a highlight of our 2 days at All Energy 2022.

Aeson Power have developed a range of systems of 128V nominal based on modules of 100Ah, 150Ah, 200Ah and 300Ah. For example, the system made of one string of 128V, 100Ah will be rated – 12.8kWh energy. The next expansion step – connecting an identical string in parallel. 

So, the expansion increment is one string (cluster).

E.g.- the next increase in energy rating:

– 12.8kWh + 12.8kWh = 25.6kWh;

Each module in the battery string is 32V, and in order to achieve a necessary voltage the modules in the battery string are connected in series, and terminated to High Voltage Box which is a block, containing a BMS for monitoring and controlling the string, a switch-fuse as a string isolator, and the telemetry. Such arrangement allows safe connecting / disconnecting with the Power Conversion System (PCS), and / or connection in parallel to additional strings or DC Distribution cabinet. Same logic applies to the system of higher voltage – 400V, 700V etc.

Aeson Power designs and builds such systems based on the customer specifications, provides both indoor and outdoor solutions, up to the Turn-Key containerized BESS.
